His team has been working hard to make some policy headway in the lead-up.

Yet the shadow of Russia continues to loom over the President’s every move.

The web of alleged connections between Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia’s government are difficult to understand.

There’s a lot of smoke, but no clear indication of a smoking gun.

“Immunity is typically sought to avoid penalty for breaking the law. Flynn agreed with the characterization while discussing the partial immunity granted to an aide to Hillary Clinton amid the federal government’s investigation of the former secretary of state’s use of a private email server at the state department.

Speaking to NBC’s Meet the Press in September, two months before the election, Flynn stated: “When you are given immunity, that means you have probably committed a crime.”

Samuel Oakford, investigative reporter for the journalistic project Airwars, reports that the number of civilian casualties in U.S. airstrikes has been escalating since Donald Trump took office two months ago.

The Trump administration is moving ahead with plans to make it easier for the CIA and the military to target terrorists with drone strikes, even if it means tolerating more civilian casualties, U.S. officials told NBC News.

The military already has declared that parts of Yemen and Somalia are war zones — “areas of active hostilities” in Pentagon parlance — which means the U.S. has greater latitude to launch strikes even if civilian deaths are possible.

That is part of a broad policy shift underway, U.S. officials say, to grant the CIA and the military more autonomy to target and kill al Qaeda and ISIS militants without presidential sign-off in countries such as Yemen, Somalia, Iraq, Syria, Libya and Afghanistan.

“Some of the Obama administration rules were getting in the way of good strikes,” said one U.S. official briefed on the matter.

The Obama administration put in place a rule that no drone strike could take place outside a war zone unless there was a “near certainty” that no civilian would be harmed.

On Saturday morning, without presenting evidence, Donald Trump
accused former president Barack Obama of illegal wiretapping.

Using Twitter, the president also mounted a defense of his attorney general, Jeff Sessions and his meetings with the Russian ambassador.

The six tweets appeared to originate with rumors circulating in rightwing media, especially talk radio and Breitbart News – recently run by Steve Bannon, now the president’s chief strategist – about a “silent coup” against Trump, by members of the Obama administration.

Vice-president Mike Pence used a personal email account to discuss security issues as governor of Indiana and was hacked last summer, it was reported on Thursday…
…The revelation comes after a bruising election campaign in which Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state was a recurring theme. Commenting on an FBI investigation last September, Pence told NBC’s Meet the Press that the Democrat was “the most dishonest candidate for President of the United States since Richard Nixon”.

But now it is his own email system under scrutiny.

And déjà vu from the Trump camp after the recent “resignation” of Michael Flynn.

US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions has removed himself from an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, following revelations he twice met with the Russian ambassador and did not say so when pressed by Congress.

Earlier, Mr Sessions had denied meeting Russia’s US ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, during the presidential campaign, despite the Justice Department saying two meetings took place.

“I have not met with any Russians at any time to discuss any political campaign and those remarks are unbelievable to me and are false,” Mr Sessions said earlier.

Father of Alternative Facts (who is YOUR Father?)

A new term has entered the lexicon—’alternative facts’.

It was used by Donald Trump’s adviser Kellyanne Conway to defend those claims by the administration that the crowds at Trump’s inauguration last month were bigger than Barack Obama’s in 2008.

Media organisations have loudly and regularly called out US President Donald Trump for falsehoods over the last 18 months.
