The MAGA Church (A message to US ‘evangelicals’.)

The name of God is blasphemed … because of you. (Rom 2:24)

I believe that Donald Trump IS God’s current choice as president of the USA – but not for the reason his ‘evangelical’ supporters think.

God has no desire or intention to Make America Great ‘Again’.

He who exalts his gate seeks destruction. (Prov 17: 9)

God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble (James 4:6, 1 Peter 5:5)

The fear of the Lord is to hate evil;
Pride and arrogance and the evil way
And the perverse mouth I hate
. (Prov 8: 13)

When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. (Prov 11:2)

By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom (Prov 13:10)

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. (Prov 16:8)

A proud and haughty man—“Scoffer” is his name; He acts with arrogant pride. (Prov 21: 24)

I have no interest in who America selects as the next president. But I am concerned by the way US evangelicals have embraced and continue to embrace Donald Trump as a saviour figure. From the very beginning this has brought the gospel and Jesus into disrepute -because of evangelical devotion to Trump and his very blatant disregard for truth or morality.

Recently I’ve seen prominent “Christians” proclaiming that a true Christian would have to vote for Trump and not Biden. I find it ironic that in my eyes, Trump’s major achievement has been to bring unity to the extreme charismatic prophets who proclaimed Trump to be a modern day Cyrus, and the extreme cessationists who usually denounce everything associated with those ‘prophets’.

I’m not writing this to promote any politician or political ideology. I write it as a cry to promote JESUS not politicians. To seek and serve the Kingdom of God not worldly kingdoms. And to avoid the idolatry of patriotism.

So many are getting caught up in worldly politics – as if any side of the political spectrum is able or willing to legislate godliness. Christians should be promoting JESUS not any worldly politician or politician ideology. I find this devotion to politics and nationalism (patriotic idolatry) is one of Satan’s strongest holds on the church today.

  1. “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He … does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.” (John 8:44)

“And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.2 (2 Thess 2:11-12)

  2. You don’t live here. I would no more try to dictate to you who should vote for in Australia because I don’t live there. Can you not look at the politicians in your own country and speak about them? You clearly have no real knowledge of the Clinton cartel—that is apparent from reading your posts from 2016. It seems to me you’ve got enough to deal with in Australia. Also, you referenced 2 Thessalonians. I guess that applies only to Christians who happen to have been born and raised in the US?

We had to choose between a candidate that was doing everything to promote abortion vs one who was clearly against it (and has done plenty to curb the outright promotion of it).

I don’t find any humility in your posts, just a desire to humiliate. The Holy Spirit will lead “real” Christians into all truth. I appreciate your wanting to help but if you believe what you are reading in the papers to evaluate Trump it’s virtually the same as reading Goebbels to tell you what Nazi Germany was like at the time of Hitler. You are believing liars who lie without compunction. You seem to be a bit fixated on the US and I am not sure why. There’s massive persecution in China and India, yet you are worried about who we are voting for. If you are that worried about the Christians here, pray for us.

  3. Hi toshirosanj,
No, I don’t live there – but ‘there’ lives here. we are bombarded with ‘there’ daily.

I’m not addressing the issue of who Americans vote for. I’m addressing the ‘evangelical’ idolisation of Trump and the sad reality of the false religion followed by so many US evangelicals, who can’t distinguish between devotion to nation and devotion to God.

As for abortion, it was legalised under a Republican president by a majority Republican appointed supreme Court, and in recent times has been used as bait by republicans to attract ‘evangelical’ votes. Neither side can be trusted with regard to abortion.

If you actually read my posts instead of responding with a knee-jerk, pro-Trump reaction, you would see that I promote neither party or candidate. I try to promote the Kingdom of God and expose the false worldly political obsessions that bring the gospel and genuine evangelical Christians into disrepute by the assumed association with a political man of lawlessness and immoral worldly politics (of either ‘wing’).

I am “fixated on the US”? It seems likely you have never been outside of the US and seen how nowhere else is free from it’s influence. It’s not “fixation” – it’s a response to the constant presence of the US in everyday Australian life. And in particular the pervasive influence of US evangelicalism across the western church.

We see more than enough of Trump himself and hear what he himself says to evaluated him without “reading Goebbels”.

Yes I know about the persecution of believers in China, India and also across the Islamic world. Those believers are far more fruitful in their faith than those in the west who are more obsessed with their “freedoms” than they are with Jesus and His Kingdom.

Just in case you missed it:

  4. Putting the Kingdom of God first would put Donald trump’s salvation ahead of his perceived value as a modern day “Cyrus” for “the Church”. Instead of excusing and turning a blind eye to his lies, his immorality etc., because of his “usefulness” as a president of their “Christian” nation, his evangelical base should call him to repentance instead of laughing along with him.

If you need an OT pagan identity to justify devotion to him, instead of labelling him a “Cyrus” who can be of use – pray for him to be a Nebuchadnezzar: a ruler who when confronted by the Living God in time turned around and : ” blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever”.
