closing churches, jailing pastors

In China, they’re closing churches, jailing pastors – and even rewriting scripture

China’s Communist party is intensifying religious persecution as Christianity’s popularity grows. A new state translation of the Bible will establish a ‘correct understanding’ of the text

  1. Interesting article. I also remember a year or two ago there were people calling themselves C/catholics (Chinese Catholics) who were protesting the edging toward an official Chinese Catholicism. The Church was cooperating with the effort… toward an official hierarchy (which is the way it’s always been… since a certain time).

  2. For a time there seemed to be a gradual move towards tolerance in China, but like many other places in the world it seems like there’s been a turn back towards nationalism and insularity.
The article perhaps shows a more open example of trying to force a blend of Christianity and nationalist politics – something that has been happening in “the west” for a long time.
