The wrath of God is being revealed

Australia’s same-sex marriage postal survey:

61.6% yes, 38.4% no

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

People often see situations like this as being examples of man’s sin that will ultimately bring about God’s judgement.

However, in Paul’s letter to the Romans (see above) I find it’s made clear that situations like this are the RESULT of God’s judgement on our societies. The more mankind rejects God, the more these things will be the norm in society, BECAUSE God has given mankind over to the sinful ways man has chosen above God.

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

What could be a clearer reason for followers of Jesus NOT to identify with, or express allegiance to, any of mankind’s earthly political agendas or political philosophies.

  1. Well, I identify with fairness and freedom (where use of the word “freedom” isn’t trickery for some people to get their way while others suffer or are denied basic freedom).

  2. Out of the 150 electorates in Australia, only 17 returned a majority “No” vote in the same sex marriage survey.

I read someone suggesting that they could determine which electorates voted no without even looking at the statistics. Clearly (he thought) they would be the most conservative rural electorates.

The facts actually show something very different.

Out of the 17 electorates 11 had “progressive” representatives, 5 had “conservative” representatives and the remaining 1 has no current representative, and is awaiting a by-election which the “progressives” hope to have a good chance of winning.

Contrary to that person’s assumption, most of those electorates are not only “progressive” they are also city seats, not rural.

  3. As for things not always being fair, and God’s ways being the way in this non-Kingdom, I guess we will always be stuck unsure of whether we want dominionism or just living decently until later — when the (one) King returns.

Right on. I’ve probably said before: “demos -kratia” in Greek roughly means “the people rule.” Nothing could be more absolutely opposite “the Kingdom of God.”

Like that “golden calf” episode in Exodus 32, and God’s characterization of how He sees “listening to the voice of the people” (I Samuel 8:7), Australia’s vote quite calls into question the “majority rule” mechanism of democracy.

  5. …. being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

Something is to be understood from what is made. So, mankind’s earthly agendas …
can have legitimacy. I wouldn’t want to go with the agenda that the agenda that observes might and concludes it makes right (which is then the only principle such that there is no fairness).

  6. Hi Steve, To paraphrase Winston Churchill, democracy is the worst form of government – apart from all the others.
In other words, it’s the best form of government that sinful man can devise.

In reality, the only perfect and just form of government would be one ruled over by a perfectly righteous and just ruler who isn’t compromised by sin or sinful tendencies.
